Where to Stay in Ashgabat: Hotels, Prices, and What to Expect

Hotels in Ashgabat cost between $15 and $240 per night depending on tier, and the city has a hostel, several solid three-star options, and three five-star properties. This page lists every current hotel with real prices so you can understand what your tour package includes before you arrive.

Can you book Ashgabat hotels independently?

No. All tourists entering Turkmenistan require a visa and a Letter of Invitation (LOI) issued by a licensed tour operator. Your hotel is arranged as part of that process, it is listed on your itinerary, which is submitted to the authorities when your LOI is approved. You cannot walk in off the street and book a room, and major platforms like Booking.com do not list Ashgabat properties for independent reservations.

In practice this means your accommodation is confirmed before you travel. When you book a tour with us, we select a hotel that fits your itinerary and budget and include it in the package price. You can request a specific tier or property when enquiring.

How much do hotels in Ashgabat cost?

Prices below are per room per night in USD and reflect current (2026) rates.

Tier Price range Hotels
Hostel $15 Kuwwat Hostel
3-star budget $50–$85/single Ak Altyn, Mizan, Bagt Koshgi, Nebitchi
3-star mid $85–$130/single Grand Turkmen, Ashgabat Hotel
4-star $100–$130/single Sport Hotel
5-star $180–$240/single Archabil, Oguzkent, Yildiz

One note on star ratings: Turkmenistan uses its own classification system. A three-star property here is clean, functional, and staff will speak some English, but it is not the same as a three-star in Western Europe. The five-star hotels are genuinely well-equipped with full spa facilities and multiple pools.

Our recommended hotel: Ak Altyn

For most travelers, the Ak Altyn Hotel is the best option in Ashgabat. At $50 per night for a single room ($75 double), it sits in the heart of the city close to the main monuments and shopping area, and it includes more than most three-star properties: Wi-Fi, breakfast, a restaurant, a spa, an outdoor pool, a souvenir shop, and parking. It is the hotel we include in most of our standard tour packages for this reason.

If you have a reason to upgrade (a longer stay, a preference for indoor pools, or a honeymoon itinerary) the five-star options are genuinely worth the jump. If you are travelling on a tight budget, the Kuwwat Hostel works but is basic.

Does location matter in Ashgabat?

Less than in most capitals. Ashgabat is a compact city and all of the hotels listed here are within a short drive of the main sights: the National Museum, the Turkmenbashi Ruhy Mosque, the monument district, and the central bazaar. You will not end up in a bad or inconvenient location.

Public transport is cheap and straightforward, a bus ride costs 0.50 manat regardless of distance. If you want to explore on a free day, the Ashgabat bus map covers all routes and stops and works offline. Your guide can also arrange a driver for any city trips.

What is included vs. what you pay separately

Breakfast is included at: Mizan, Grand Turkmen, Sport Hotel, and all three five-star properties. At other hotels, breakfast is an additional cost paid in manat on the day.

Spa and pool access is included in the room rate at Nebitchi and all four- and five-star properties. At other hotels these facilities are either not available or charged separately.

Any extras during your stay (laundry, minibar, additional meals) are settled in U.S Dollars at the hotel. Your guide can help with any payments that require local currency.
